Re: Recommendation for the Ministry of Rev.Mel Montgomery
I became acquainted with Mel a little less than a year ago. I first became interested in Bro. Mel’s website which highlighted the past ministries of well respected and renowned men and women of God. I have throughout the years desired to hear some of the Goodwin’s recordings but to no avail. Brother Mel was the first to retrieve and reintroduce recordings from people like the Goodwin’s. I believe the Lord has anointed Mel for this hour and has trusted him to bring back into circulation some of the voices of the past for our edification and to recapture authentic insight into true prophetic and apostolic ministry.
As a Pastor of a growing church in Chicago I understand the importance of linking with other ministry gifts to edify the local body. It is with the five fold ministry gifts that we effectively equip the saints to do the work of the ministry. I felt a need to bring in a person that I felt was anointed in the prophetic office but had a clear understanding of some of the pitfalls and concerns that a Pastor of a local assembly would have when it comes to all of the wild and fleshly things that have been done in the name of prophetic ministry.
After a couple of phone calls with Mel I felt a kinship to the way he had been tutored and mentored under Sister Goodwin. Although I respect some of the men and women of God that are ministering today; I absolutely believe there are tremendous indiscretions and unscriptural approaches to this ministry that have been embraced in the body of Christ at large which are more damaging than beneficial; as it is with much of the so called prosperity teaching that we hear today.
Many people are under the misguided assumption that they have gifts that they can flow in at any time and that they are prophetic when in many cases it is more pathetic than anything else. I appreciated the maturity and grounded nature of Bro. Mel and felt led of the Lord to have him minister to the congregation I serve in Chicago in the month of April 2007. Not having met each other in person Mel and I were not sure what to expect but inwardly I believe we both knew that our connection was of the Lord. Sure enough we were absolutely blessed by Mel’s ministry. He is a well grounded teacher with a solid flow of the revelation gifts to share with the body of Christ. The prophetic gift when understood should be a delight to a local church. The gift of God in Brother Mel is just that.
I was impressed by the fact that Bro. Mel shared with me that he would only move when God gave him the unction and that he could not promise that he would be able to minister to us in any special way. I shared with Mel that I agreed with how he understood the flow of the spirit to be (as the spirit wills) and that he was not under any pressure to perform. While Mel was here he was extremely respectful with honoring our leadership even though we assured him that he was free to flow however God graced him.
I plan to bring Mel back to our congregation in the near future he is a gift to our body and I highly recommend him based on our experience. If you want to meet someone genuine with an interest in pleasing the Lord not man; someone mature and who understands authentic prophetic ministry Mel is one of these men.
