Sowing Seeds for a Reformation of Charismatic and Word of Faith Christianity Rev. Mel C. Montgomery, Editor | January 2009 Issue |
Brother Mel Many of you have suggested that I have a new picture taken for the website, and I have done so. I was very pleased with this initial photograph. This photographic work was donated by a Christian photographer named Kelly Lawson. He does wonderful work, as you can see. We plan to shoot other photos in the next few months, probably in the Spring when we can do so outside. | 2007 - 2008: 723,575 Hits! In reviewing our website stastics at the end of 2008, I realize that I was tallying only part of the hits we receive. I was adding up the hits on our articles, but I was not including the hits we receive when someone downloads the audio recordings. I was stunned to find that we have had more than double the number of hits I had been counting. The actual total number of hits is as follows: Jan. 1, 2007 - Dec. 30, 2008 372,313 (audio recordings) 351,262 (teaching articles) Total: 723,575 Hits Praise the Lord! | Redesigned Home Page: The Home Page of www.brothermel.com has been redesigned to include the following slide show. | New Goodwin Video:
Here is a video of Sister Goodwin preaching for about 15 minutes back in the early 1980's. She speaks on what she and Dad Goodwin learned from Howard Carter. She shares something the Holy Spirit told her in the early years of her ministry that helped her over the years to endure the criticism that comes to those who are used of the Holy Spirit. Mom actually preaches a bit in this one. Rev. Marie E. Brown (1880 - 1971) Marie Estelle Burgess Brown received the baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1906. For two years she had trained at Moody's Bible Institute, and had planned to be a missionary to the Congo. But in 1906 she was filled with the Spirit and spoke in tongues. Shut out of the mission she had been attending, she and another lady pioneered Glad Tidings Mission in New York City in 1907, and invited Robert Brown to preach the first service. Three years later they married. Robert and Marie Brown built up Glad Tidings Mission into a church they named Glad Tidings Tabernacle. This church became a crossroads for the Pentecostal giants of the day. The Jeffrey Brothers, Smith Wigglesworth, Donald Gee, and Howard Carter preached there a number of times. Smith Wigglesworth was scheduled to preach the Church's 40th anniversary service in 1947 when the Lord called him home. In 1948, Robert went to Glory. Marie, with the help of R. Stanley Berg, carried on the work of this mighty church until her passing in 1971 at the age of 90. Glad Tidings Tabernacle still exists in New York City and is still a Pentecostal church preaching Jesus as Savior, Baptizer, Healer, and Soon Coming King.* In our two recordings of Sister Marie, she is preaching in 1952. She speaks of the early days of Pentecost, the mission she founded in 1907, challenges she and her husband faced in ministry, and the ingredients necessary for victory. Truly, a woman of Pentecost. Marie Brown Quotes: "Live a surface life, and you can never keep the anointing. You may keep a message. You may have a wonderful ministry in prophecy. But without the oil of the Holy Spirit upon our message today, it does not reach the heart, nor does it glorify the Master." "Brother, you will never know the real power of God, you'll never know the deep fellowship of the Spirit, until you are willing to get into your own closet and fast and pray for yourself."* Audio Recordings "The Place of Vision" By Rev. Marie Brown--1952 "Building on the Foundation" By Rev. Marie Brown--1952 * This biographical sketch is drawn from "Pentecostal Pioneers Remembered" by Rev. Keith Malcomson. I highly recommend this book. It may be purchased through Keith Malcomson's website. Source of the Recordings: These recordings of Sister Brown were donated to us by Jay Hearn. His website features numerous recordings by ministers of the Latter Rain Movement of the 1940's and 1950's. | Great Churches--Indiana The Bibles says, "forsake not the assembling of yourselves with the brethren." However, it is sometimes a challenge to find a church or ministry to hook up with that teaches sound doctrine, operates in integrity, loves people, and allows the Holy Spirit to flow. I have created a page on this website, "Great Churches" so that I can share with you churches and pastors with whom I am familiar. Each of these churches are places that I consider to be wonderful places in which to serve God and are overseen by true pastors. If I were in these areas, these are the churches I would attend. From time to time in this newsletter I feature one of these churches. Today, I wish to familiarize you with the ministry of Pastor Chad Carter. Brother Chad is a graduate of World Harvest Bible College, and he was mentored by Pastor Rod Parsley of Word Harvest Church. Our times of fellowship together have been enriching to me. Pastor Carter certainly has a heart for God, a heart for preaching the Gospel, a heart for the lost, and a heart for the people of God. If you are within driving distance of this church, I encourage you to plant yourself in this church and allow a true pastor to shepherd you deeper into the things of God. Harold Horton 1881-1961 Dr. Harold Horton was an ordinary minister until he was healed and received the mighty Pentecostal outpouring with the evidence of speaking in tongues. He was transformed, never to be the same. Dr. Horton tore up all of his sermons and began preaching Pentecost. He preached in services with Wigglesworth and other early Pentecostal giants and served as a professor at Howard Carter's Bible College. Harold Horton Quote: One day when gathered with other leaders the question was raised as to "how to make our meetings more interesting?" His response was: ". . . how to make the Cross interesting - Blood - Fire - Power - The Upper Room - The Holy Ghost - interesting!? The Cross is dangerous; it will acquit or sentence you. The Blood is mighty; it will cleanse, or stain you. Fire is terrible; it will inflame, or scorch you. Risen power is all hallowed; it will resurrect or slay you. The Upper Room will drench or drown, charm or terrify you. The Holy Ghost will satiate or scatter you. Making meetings interesting is touching the Ark! . . . . . . besides, there is nobody in Pentecost clever enough to make meetings more interesting . . . There is a mighty Pentecostal outpouring round the corner. It is coming. It is coming. There are two companies amongst us; the half-hearted and the whole-hearted. The whole-hearted will be in it. The half-hearted, though they may have been praying for it, will be out of it." We host one recording by Harold Horton. It is entitled "The Naked Splendour of the Cross." You can read his biographical sketch and listen to his sermon HERE. | In Case You Missed it: We released a new e-book in our December e-mail newsletter. Fellow ministers have contacted me and told me that this book clarifies many issues and answers numerous questions in their thinking. I know that with all of the activities and demands associated with the holidays, some of you may have overlooked this, so I'm announcing it in this newsletter also: "The Highest Form of Spiritual Warfare" by Rev. Mel C. Montgomery I believe I can say in all honesty, that this book will change your life and increase greatly your understanding of faith, the Authority o0f the Believer, and Spiritual Warfare if you will read it and think deeply on it. | Please Note: The number of subscribers to this newsletter has increased exponentially over the last two years to the point where we are experiencing growing pains. Namely, we have exceeded our capacity to send out our monthly e-mail newsletter to so many people from one e-mail address. Beginning in January, in addition to sending our e-mails from our current address of brothermel.com, we will also send some from our other address of brothermel.org. Please set your junkmail filters to allow the newsletter to come from this alternate address also. | Old-Time
Holy Ghost Meetings Next Meeting: Friday February 13, 2009 Time: 7:30 pm Collinsville (Tulsa), OK | Everyone: In my opinion, one of Tulsa's best kept secrets is Sister Elizabeth Pruitt-Sloan's Holy Ghost meetings which she holds the second Friday evening of every month. The music, teaching, and fellowship are great blessings to all who attend. I never miss these meetings if my schedule allows me to come. If at all possible, I will attend the upcoming one on Friday January 9, 2009. I always come just as a guest, supporting the meetings of my friend and with no plans to minister, but the Lord usually gives me something to contribute to the service. Sister Elizabeth Pruitt-Sloan grew up attending Aimee Semple McPherson's church, graduated from Rhema's first graduating class, and ministered with Billye Brim for years. Elizabeth knew the Goodwins and Brother Hagin well and is very developed in the things of the Spirit. She preaches sound messages and allows the Holy Spirit to flow. Several times God has met my need in a tremendous way in these meetings, and I believe He will meet yours also. If you are within driving distance of Tulsa, OK please mark your calendars and visit the next meeting: Date: Friday January 9, 2009 Time: 7:30 pm Speaker: Elizabeth Pruitt-Sloan Location and Time: A Glorious Church 915 N. 19th Collinsville, OK 74021. 918-371-4589 If you attend, please introduce yourself to me before or after the service. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you! |

Please make checks out to: Brother Mel Ministries PO Box 783 Joplin, MO 64802 | A Word from Brother Mel: Dear Ministry Partners and Friends, This ministry continues to grow and expand. I was stunned to find that our website traffic reports revealed that we have had over 723,000 hits since January 1, 2007. I'm just in awe of the fact that the recordings on this website have been downloaded over 370,000 times. Think of how many ministers have been instructed, and people have been edified in 78 countries by these recordings! It seems also that approximately once a month, someone contacts me with additional rare recordings. Such is the favor and blessing of God. I've received reports of a number of ministers who are taking a second look at a couple of common Charismatic and Word of Faith teachings based on what they have read in my articles. I believe the Holy Spirit is bringing a great deal of correction to all of us. Many of you have sent me e-mails that have been a great encouragement to me. Some of you have stepped forward and also sown financial seeds into this ministry. I'm thankful to you all. I want you to know that every day when I read the scriptures, I stop and pray for the needs some of you have shared with me. I also pray for all of you to prosper and be in health, and to receive a move from God in whatever area you need it. Based on several things the Lord has said to me, I believe in 2009 I will have the leading of the Lord to expand my itinerant ministry by accepting more invitations. Never the less, I am still accepting invitations to hold meetings only when I am sure I have God's direction to do so. My heart is greatly stirred at the prospect of meeting more of you, and ministering in services to you what God has put within me, and enjoying fellowship with you. As I end this newsletter, concerning meetings in 2009, I can say to you as the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome: "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God . . . For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. . . And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. . . Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me . . . that I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed."--Rom. 15:13-15, 22, 29, 30, 32.
