A Message to Pastors:

     In 1947:

     Smith Wigglesworth died.

     Charles S. Price died.

     Aimee Semple-McPherson died.

     In 1947:

     Oral Roberts began his ministry.

     Billy Graham began his ministry.

     The Healing Revival broke out.

Whenever great men and women of God pass from the scene, we bury them with tears, but God brings us rejoicing by birthing something new.

     In the early 2000's:

     Kenneth Hagin died.

     Derek Prince died.

     Bill Bright died.

     Rex Humbard died.

     Lester Sumrall died.

     John Osteen died.

     God is birthing something new.

Everywhere I go, I hear ministers say the same thing:

"I want more of the moving of the Spirit, but I also want order.  I'm tired of the teachings that manipulate people for personal gain, celebrity preachers with king-sized egos, the flattering 'prophecies' that never seem to come to pass, and seeing believers running around clucking like chickens and barking like dogs.  Isn't there some way to have sound teaching, a genuine move of the Holy Spirit, and yet do things decently and in order?"

     Yes there is.

In the late 1980's Sister Goodwin prophesied to me:

"Mel, you are going to have a strong ministry, an anointed ministry, like some of the men of old."

For 20 years, I wondered what Sister Goodwin meant by "some of the men of old."  How could this ever come to pass?  I began to see it come to pass in 2006.

The Holy Spirit spoke to me early one morning in 2006 and said, "Start a blog."  So in obedience, I started a blog and began putting on it my teachings and some biographical articles about the Goodwins.  Immediately I was contacted by people who had known the Goodwins.  Then the Goodwin family and associates asked me to host on my website the recordings that were made at the Goodwins' church of Howard Carter, Kenneth Hagin, the Goodwins and others.  Before long, people from around the world began sending me other rare early Pentecostal recordings.  In 2007, the blog evolved into the website you now see.

It was in early 2008 that I began to understand and see the fulfillment of Sister Goodwins' prophecy.  As I listened to the recordings of "the men of old," I began to realize that their message was considerably different than what we preach today.  While it is true that some of the old Pentecostals became bound up in legalism and modes of dress, not all of them did.  Those like Smith Wigglesworth, Howard Carter, F.F. Bosworth, David Du Plessis and Stanley Frodsham, continued walking with God starting at Azusa Street, and those that lived long enough even welcomed the Healing Revival, and participated in the Charismatic move.  When God moved, they moved with Him.

But they did not change their message.

I was stunned to find out:

  • They were aware of, and flatly rejected, several teachings that are common today in Charismatic and Word of Faith circles.
  • Their concept of faith was considerably different than ours.
  • Their understanding of spiritual warfare bears no resemblence to what we believe.
  • In some of their teachings, they were closer to the Southern Baptists than to us.
  • They understood their authority in Christ much better than we do.
  • Rather than gaining more in God than they had, we have lost much of what they knew and practiced, and we have wandered far from the message they preached.

     Surprised?

     So was I.

What I seek to do on this website, and in local church meetings is to bring the neglected mantles and teachings of "the men of old" to a new generation.  I combine the best of the past, with the core teaching of the Word of Faith message, along with what I've learned from the Bible and in experiences with the Holy Spirit.

I welcome all contacts from pastors, regardless of whether such contacts culminate in an invitation to hold meetings.  I will help fellow ministers any way I can.
